Attraverso copiose strategie di smarrimento e disattesa, Widdershins produce un ambiente sonoro parimenti surreale e iperrealista, soggetto a continue meta- e anamorfosi che se da un lato mirano scientemente a tradire la percezione individuale, dall’altro invitano a conquistarne un grado ulteriore sinora ignoto: una volta acceduto, la forzosa e irrisolta coesistenza dei diversi piani farà sì che, anche dopo diversi ascolti, l’opera continui a proporsi come virtualmente inesauribile.

Through copious strategies of dismay and disregard, Widdershins produces an equally surreal and hyper-realistic sound environment, subjected to continuous meta- and anamorphoses which, if on the one hand consciously aim at betraying individual perception, on the other hand invite us to conquer a further, hitherto unknown degree of it: once accessed, the forced and unresolved coexistence of the different planes will ensure that, even after several listenings, the work will still present itself as virtually inexhaustible.

L’approccio di Alan Licht, nei confronti della radio a onde corte così come della chitarra elettrica, è in certo modo una sineddoche della sua intera visione artistica: scavare a forza nei comuni strumenti e da essi “estirpare” i suoni più inconsueti e devianti, le fenomenologie inesplorate o ancora ricche di un difforme potenziale creativo.

Alan Licht’s approach to shortwave radio as to the electric guitar is, in a way, a synecdoche to his entire artistic vision: digging by force into common instruments and “weeding out” the most unusual and deviant sounds, phenomenologies unexplored or still rich in their divergent creative potential.

On this album for solo organ the expressionism of English’s most celebrated studio works is absorbed in a hermetic dimension of sound which, however, does not affect its aesthetic poignancy and supreme pathos: : an artistic achievement that leaves no doubt on the true stature of its creator, perhaps the most virtuous exponent of ambient/drone research in the last decade.
